Product photography using one light
Product photography can be a challenging genre of photography, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create professional results with minimal equipment.
Often, when thinking about product photography, one imagines a range of specialist lighting modifiers, complex lighting setups and elaborate sets, but the reality is that great results can be achieved using very simple equipment.
This is exactly what Karl will be demonstrating in this live show, where he will be undertaking the challenge of photographing a cosmetic product shot using just one light.
You can find further step-by-step examples of one light product shoots throughout our site, including our ‘One light lipstick product shoot’ and ‘Luxury watch photography using one studio light’ classes, as well as a number of our food photography tutorials.
In each of these classes, and what Karl will demonstrate in this show, is that there are certain key things to consider when using just one light for product photography. These include:
- The type of modifier
- The position of the light
- The distance of the light from the object
- The surface textures of the product
Throughout the show Karl will demonstrate how to make the most of minimal equipment, demonstrating how to carefully control light for the best results.
As he photographs a lipstick cosmetics shot, you will learn:
- How to control light on matte and gloss surfaces
- How to use just one light for product photography
- How to use scrims for gradient lighting
- How to use reflectors and flags to control light
- Professional product photography tips
