Cups of tea and feta cheese may seem like an unusual idea for food photography, but together with top food photographer, Anya Pustynnikova, I show you just how to get the very best out of any food item.

About Anya Pustynnikova

Anya Pustynnikova is a terrific food photographer and food stylist based in Moscow, Russia. Photography was part of her life from an early age as her father had a photo laboratory at home. She started out photographing people and street photography and got into food photography as a result of her first job, where she worked as a marketing manager for a restaurant company. It was “love at first sight” and the start of a hugely successful career.

In this course Anya and Karl show you how you can create great food shots with simple gear and minimal lighting — so simple that you can easily replicate these professional shots in your own dining room with not much more than a softbox, some diffusion material, a few reflectors and a 35mm DSLR.

Every detail is important in food styling, have you trained yourself to notice them?

Food photography comes down to a few key elements to think about, but if you don’t perfect these your images will be found wanting. I show you what to consider and how to truly make your dish the hero of the shot.

  • Story telling: It’s important to tell a story with your photography, but how can you do this?
  • Research and planning: These initial phases are important — without them you’ll have no direction.
  • Powerful props: Your props can make or break your image, don’t let it be the latter.
  • Effective styling: Learn how to effectively style your images to get the best results.
  • Creative lighting: A thorough understanding of lighting will ensure you have the tools to bring your vision to life.
  • Make the most of modifiers: A light is not just a light. Learn what you can achieve with various modifiers.
  • The power of simplicity: Know how to make the greatest impact using what you have on hand.

This course guides you through the smallest details of food photography and provides clear examples of what can be achieved.
