Food Photography, Lighting and Styling

Dig in to this food photography feast.

For this food photography workshop, recorded LIVE, Karl is joined by top food photographer Anna Pustynnikova for an in-depth lesson in styling and lighting.

Anna shares her top secrets for food styling as well as demonstrates how, using just basic equipment, you can achieve amazing food photographs. Building on this, Karl then demonstrates a number of alternative lighting setups as they work, live, towards achieving a mouthwatering image of beef pastrami.

This photography workshop forms part of our series food photography tutorials.

  1. What made you decide to work with Anna?
What kind of preparations did you do before Anna arrived at your studio?

    Love the videos!

    1. Hi Jeissi, thanks. I came across her work some years ago and I liked the fact she was also a photographer as well as food stylist and thought it would bring an interesting angle to our classes. She’s been a couple of times and each time we work up a bunch of mood boards and ideas and then we sketch some shots up, talk about props etc and then she organises the props and we get a shopping list from her for food suppliers etc and then it goes from there.

  2. just watching this live shoot and wondering about the spices in the pots, not sure it was covered but are the spices in the pots fixed/glued in place, if so how and what are they glue in with
