While there are plenty of self-proclaimed “photography experts” online, the majority aren’t able to produce even average images without extensive retouching — and you definitely won’t see them shooting live and sharing their results in real-time.

Karl Taylor is the exception. He is respected by amateurs and pros across the industry for his ability to clearly and concisely communicate both the artistic and technical aspects of photography. Karl breaks down complex subjects with a logical and entertaining approach that has attracted a worldwide following.

Karl Taylor

Karl Taylor is a professional photographer with over 20 years experience and he is commissioned by leading global companies for his precise attention to detail and his exquisite control of light. www.karltaylor.co.uk

Karl’s work covers advertising, beauty and fashion photography for commercial clients. Having started his career in photojournalism he is also comfortable and actively enjoys shooting across a range of other genres. Karl’s ethos is that ‘variety is the spice of life’ and that the visual philosophies for creating effective images are universal.

Ten years ago Karl also entered the training market and soon became know for his ability to explain complex subjects extremely clearly. His unique way of teaching and clear instruction has led him to work for, Hasselblad Camera Company, Broncolor Lighting and Adobe as well as appearances on the BBC. His training is also used by Universities and education providers around the world.

Karl regularly travels around the globe, as an Ambassador and educator for leading players in the industry and his range of courses have become the benchmark for effective, entertaining and inspirational training. As well as a passion for photography Karl’s other passion is technical diving and underwater video. At weekends Karl can often be found in the depths documenting forgotten shipwrecks. Karl is happily married to Hélène and they have two adorable but mischievous young children.

Tim Gaudion

Tim is the Creative Director of the business and is in charge of the overall look and feel of our brand. Tim is also chief cameraman having had experience in video and television production.

Tim is also responsible for the look and design of the website, as well as actually ‘building’ it. Tim comes from a creative background in illustration and web design and has had a successful career in illustrating book covers and well known images for international brands such as the Body Shop and Hewlett Packard.

Outside of work Tim is happily married and has a young son. Tim loves being by the water and in his spare time is often found surfing with his son or fishing in a lake or the ocean.

Jon Bairds

Jon is our Marketing and Technology Director and his work involves maintaining our website and ongoing analytics and marketing campaigns. Jon has implemented many key ideas in the business and is also involved in the design and build of the website.

Jon comes from a background in design and spent many years working in programming and coding in the UK and overseas. Jon also doubles as a second cameraman where necessary when we are away filming.

Jon is based in Cornwall in the UK where he lives with his wife and two children and enjoys surfing and swimming.

Hélène Cavignac-Taylor

Hélène joined the company in 2014. She works hand in hand with Emma and is in charge of company finances, general company administration and customer support.

Hélène was born and raised in France and has a Master’s degree in Business Management from La Sorbonne University in Paris. After having spent almost ten years in the finance industry, Hélène is now enjoying working in a completely different environment.

Hélène moved to Guernsey in 2002 and met Karl with whom she is happily married, and they now have two young children. In her spare time, Hélène enjoys travelling, ballet and yoga classes – that is if she gets any time to spare from the kids!

Ben Thoume

Ben joined our team in 2015 straight out of university as our Video Editor. He is responsible for editing all of our photography courses as well as the steady stream of online videos we make for our large following on various social media platforms.

After discovering a love for film at an early age he pursued an education in media studies, eventually finding that his passion lay with video editing. He then went on to obtain a degree in Media Production where he created a variety of dramatic, stylistic and informative short films. Ben also helps manage our social media and assists as a cameraman on productions.

Outside of work Ben is a devoted Chelsea supporter and when he isn’t watching football he is playing his guitars or adding to the long and ever growing list of movies he has seen or is eagerly waiting to view.

Emma Harris

Emma is the youngest member of the Karl Taylor Education team who joined the company in 2016. She works hand in hand with Hélène and is in charge of customer service and general company administration as well as the day-to-day running of our office.

With a love for writing and English literature Emma is able to utilize this when contributing to our blog posts, marketing emails and the content on our site.

Outside of work Emma is always busy helping run her Brownie pack, leading Duke of Edinburgh Groups on expeditions, or getting stuck into a good book.

Ashleigh Morris

Ashleigh Morris

Originally from South Africa, Ashleigh joined the team at the start of 2018. She works closely within the group as a copywriter and assistant video editor, helping to create content for our website and social media platforms. Ashleigh also supervises transcriptions and assists on photoshoots having come from a background in photography.

She developed an interest in photography while still at school and secured her first job as a second shooter at the age of 16. Wanting to combine her passion for photography with her love of writing, she went on to study journalism at Rhodes University, where she specialised in Photojournalism.

In her spare time Ashleigh can be found outdoors, enjoying an active lifestyle or working her way through an ever growing list of books she wants to read.
